Jam Post Mortem
This game was made in 3 weeks for the 2024 Revival Jam put on by Society of Play. It's a "revival" because I wanted to make an incremental upgrade game last SoP jam but was stuck finishing a video about playtesting. So this jam was the chance to finally do that.
I ultimately overscoped, but my focus was on learning code architecture and developing an engine for doing in-game upgrades. I spent the first half of the jam doing code architecture, and then the last slapping duct tape on everything trying to finish. I also got obsessed creating tools to allow upgrades to grow into infinity when I knew most players would only make it 10-20 waves. That was just a long time thing I wanted to improve. I did find some very interesting techniques and I plan on expanding on that and doing a write-up on it.
I focused on working on what was fun over what would finish the game, which is a cathartic thing to do, and I'd recommend it to anyone. There are several ideas I still want to develop, as well as balancing the game design, so I will continue to update this game over time.
